Summary:
Fumiko looks at the Whip Hybrid and her associates; one is dead while the other two are seriously injured. Before she can react, a Spear Hybrid grabs her and holds her hostage. Confused, she begins to ask how the Hybrids escaped from custody, only to be interrupted by the Whip Hybrid to explain that the Fire Devil’s attacks distracted public safety enough for them to get away. Denji calls them monsters, but Miri, still believing that what they are doing is right, tries to explain their position; All of this rampage is done to prevent Nostradamus’ prophecy, including setting the house on fire. Livid, Denji calls him crazy, only for Miri to respond by goading him to unleash his fury so he can save the world. Whip Hybrid comments on Miria’s gullibility as Barem gets up from his gunshot wound.
Acting quickly, Nayuta tries to use his chains of command on him and orders him to bite his own tongue and drop dead. Barem is somehow able to resist and walks over to Nayuta and grabs her by the neck before telling Denji that if she moves she will die. He assumes that he is able to resist Nayuta’s control because he is still in love with Makima – regardless of whether it is against his own will or not – and that if Makima were around, she would handle the Death Devil situation much better than Fami currently can. He then reveals his true feelings for Denji, as well as how he hates that he hypocritically denied Makima’s vision of absolute peace to the world while reveling in the peaceful life that Public Security gave him. Nayuta releases the chain into one of the remaining Public Security members and orders him to fire a second bullet at Barem, causing him to drop it. With many lives on the line, Denji goes to retrieve his release line, only to see Pochita waving at him from the burning wreckage. He pulled the cord and collapsed to the ground. Nayuta rushes over in a panic, only to ask Denji why he’s laughing.
