Chainsaw Man may be populated by terrifying fiends who spill a lot of blood and guts as they terrorize the human population, but despite this fact, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Shonen franchise takes the opportunity to inject some serious humor into its story. Such is the case with the anime’s second episode, which sees Denji go full demon hunter under Makima and unleash his hilarious “ultimate attack” against Aki after a tense encounter between the two warriors who must now fight side by side.
Denji’s dreams are modest because the chainsaw devil is not looking for fame and fortune, but is simply working to achieve a life that is on par with many ordinary citizens in his world. Jumping at the chance to have a hearty meal for the first time in years and being excited to spread different types of jam on his toast is a dream come true for the Shonen protagonist, that is until he comes into contact with Aki. . Aki is a seasoned demon hunter for the government, working under Makima, who believes that Denji simply does not have what it takes to survive their deadly calling.
When Aki physically tries to stop Denji from continuing his new job, the chainsaw fiend doesn’t transform into his new bloody form, but instead unleashes a rather hilarious fighting style in which he unleashes a flurry of kicks to Aki’s crotch. Of course, Aki is unable to withstand these blows and Denji continued his course of fighting demons under Makima’s guidance. Needless to say, this isn’t the last time we see Denji and Aki going head to head in the series.
Aside from Denji’s hilarious attacks, the second episode of Chainsaw Man also features an introduction of Power running the ground floor by delivering hilarious dialogue along with a major display of her own skills while fighting the Sea Cucumber Devil. Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Shonen series is one that can be quite violent, but its hilarity helps balance out the franchise’s darker moments.
